How’d your passion for menswear start?
The way we dress now started in college. We each went through the graphic tee-and-Sneakerhead phase, and frankly, we wanted to look better and be taken more seriously– it’s amazing what a button-up shirt can do. The power of fashion was instilled in us early on, though. Growing up around cholos made us very aware of how one’s image reflects on society. Look at us now, ma! We made it out of the hood.
What are your goals as an influencer?
We’re just here to (try to) inspire whoever feels like following us. We started this project to show the world how we were dressing and what we were doing. We’re not here to teach (there’s way better sources out there for that), but really just to prompt people to follow suit. Although our posts are menswear heavy, we like to think we’re more lifestyle. You’ll find everything from art and leisure to beer and adventure (we camp and rock climb a lot). We’re a little bit of everything–men’s lifestyle from the Ape’s perspective.
How would you describe your personal style?
Good question…we’ve never had to describe our style. Let’s call it unconventional business casual. Don’t be surprised if you find us dressing all the way up or all the way down, though.
Describe your outfit:
Baker (I’m the one with the glasses): After looking at the pictures, I’m realizing I went with some kind of burgundy/red theme. So there’s that. I worked back from the shirt; I knew it would draw focus to the tie, which has some great texture.
Beef: Earth tones are hard to go wrong with. Plus, I like green. Did you see the wall we shot in front of? That’s a nice wall.
Random Fun Fact:
Believe it or not, we’re wearing masks.
